Bollywood offers a more serene destination for talents from Kashmir

In 2013, when 28-year-old Rafi Khan was waiting at the Srinagar International Airport to board a flight to Mumbai, he remembers feeling both excitement and dread. "I couldn't ignore the knot in my tummy, because I was leaving home and travelling thousands of kilometres to a city, where I knew nobody, simply on the assurance of a lady I had met a few days ago," says the vocalist, who hails from Batamaloo, Srinagar.

With more than 15 years of experience, Rafi Khas has often been referred to as the artist hailing from the heaven!

Rafi Khan is a professional singer based out of the finance capital of India, Mumbai. Since childhood, Rafi was very fond of singing. Often referred to as the artist hailing from the heaven, he started his singing career in 1990 in Kashmir. In 2011, he got an offer to perform in Mumbai; as a result, he planned to shift his base to Mumbai After that, many shows were offered to him; he was selected for many reality shows. Gradually, his fame took him to different places like Goa, Delhi, Bangalore, etc.

From local cafes to int’l events: Singer Rafi Khan’s musical voyage

In 2003, a journey named ‘Valley Boyz’ started, a local band created by Singer Rafi Khan from Srinagar’s Batmaloo area. For a decade, the band performed on various platforms, and achieved considerable fame locally. However, a singer’s dream to perform before a bigger audience and on a bigger platform meant Rafi had to leave Kashmir and pursue his dream in the city of dreams, hub of Indian cinema industry, popularly known as Bollywood, of which every aspiring singer, actor and filmmaker wants to be part of, Mumbai (Amchi Mumbai). Initially Rafi struggled but soon his heart melting voice echoed in local cafes and clubs of Mumbai.
